Nigel and I dosed ourselves up with drugs (purely pharmaceutical) and went down to visit Adam. If you walk along the road from his hall of residence you can drop down on to the Victoria Canal. From there it's a cycle ride in one direction to his hockey pitch and the other to Central St Martin's. Sadly the path was designed for horses pulling barges and he says if there are lots of people walking it's too difficult trying to cycle so he only uses the route 'off peak'. As there is a towpath under the tunnels I don't think the barge drivers had to resort to 'legging' (lying down and 'walking' along the walls of the tunnel to propel the boat forward) but it is still a very interesting bit of history and I felt he is sort of bonded to his sister in Birmingham which also has a big canal network (though neither of them know or care!)
