I don't know what this tree is called but I photographed it at the Gog Magogs in the rain yesterday and in the lovely sunshine (which made a fleeting appearance) across the road at Wandlebury today. Google has let me down so if anybody knows I'd love to know. It seems to have red petals with a yellow inner and is an odd looking flower. Nothing done to this pic apart from the frame - it seemed a shame to mess with that elusive blue. Huge thanks for the great response to my beech trees yesterday.
Three good things:
1. Some good progress with Christmas shopping (but I'm already acquiring a return pile...)
2. I found the neighbour's gorgeous dog wandering along the pavement outside and took him home to a dark, empty house with the door open - a bit spooky but no burglars inside!
3. An appointment with my daughter on Skype (before an appointment with horror film quantities of ironing). That reminds me that I used to tease my Irish friend who pronounced "R" as 'Or' by pretending I couldn't remember how to spell 'horror' - she'd get to the second 'O' before she realised what I was making her do!
Oh and Happy Thanksgiving!!
It is Spindle! Beautiful pink berries with bright orange seeds inside. The wood was used to make spindles (Sleeping Beauty) because it's very hard. Lovely shot of an amazing number of berries.
I would have sworn these were berries, what a stunning tree to have in the garden, i must look it up!
Dark here all day today but rain clouds coming over to you tomorrow I think! Your neighbour dog must have learnt how to open the door!
It was featured on gardener's world recently and was apparently used for spindles in the olden days. Nice shot of it. I have only come to notice it this year for the first time.
Beautiful pops of red in those Spindleberry blossoms! (Disclaimer: I had no idea what they were before reading the responses). Love the tease of your Irish friend. My wonderful maternal grandmother had a very delightful Southern accent and dropped every "R" in any word she came across . My aunt's name is Carolyn, which my Grandmother pronounced 'Calyn'. In my snarky teenaged years I would think, "Why would you name a kid something you can't pronounce". Of course, I grew to think it charming. But I still wonder... :)
Good choice not to mess with the colours! Skype is such a great way to keep in touch - I wouldn't have survived Cambridge (despite all its beauty) without being able to skype with my husband every other day. And I do love the Irish accent :)!
Good bye, Judith. It's time for me to leave 365. It was a great pleasure to meet you here and to share the 365 adventure with you. And you are still doing such a great job ... wow!! Sabrina :)
