Gnarly Pohutukawa... by julzmaioro

Gnarly Pohutukawa...

Another shot from our little expedition yesterday.. loved this very old and gnarly tree... The Pohutukawa tree has an enemy in our Opossum's.. they eat the young shoots and can strip a tree in a very short time.. But with an eradication programme the tree's have survived..
I didn't know the possums like this tree - we lived next to a forest and they liked Kentucky Fried Pine Tree! This is a lovely vintage look to it!

Yes they were bad news on the Pohutukawa tree's , but with the Project Crimson Program, and MAF it has bought the Possum population to a controllable level...

Love your gnarly treatment of this subject - it says a lot about the coastal hardiness of this tree.
