Last night we had camera club and the set subject was 'Monochrome' .. I decided to convert one of my South Island shots to sepia..
This is a shot of the Shepherd that had just penned his flock of 1200 sheep into the pens ready for sorting .. (@dide had a series of photo's last week showing the process).
He looked pretty satisfied with himself and his dogs ..
I got a Highly commended for this shot.. points off for not having enough room for the shepherd ..
One of those shots that you just had to capture the moment and hard to get everything just right..
I really love this image and is suits sepia so well. Yes - it's a pity he didn't stand there for a few seconds longer so you could have changed the angle slightly. Such a great bunch of well behaved working dogs. Fav
As an ex- shepherd myself, (1700 ewes on 3000 acres of salt marsh) without our dogs the job would be impossible to do. However with poor profits in sheep the UK national flock is being rapidly reduced and this way of life will soon be over, with sheep just being kept on a small scale.
@ptarmy the sheep stations are doing ok in nz though most of the really large ones ate in the South Island.. we are North Island dairy farmers.. and appreciate the work our dogs do..
