Today was finals day at the New Zealand Secondary Schools rowing finals ... In March every year the Regatta is hosted by either the South Island ( Twizel Lake Ruataniwha) or North Island (Cambridge Lake Karapiro) .. Thousands of students from all around the country come together ... GD's Kenna and Taryn had a fantastic campaign.. and today had two 'B' finals each ... Kenna with her Under 16 single skull.. 6th.. Under 16 doubles... 3rd... Taryn won both of her Doubles races Under 18 novice and under 15.. Coach Ron is very proud of them .. This man is amazing with the time he has dedicated to coach the team .. carrying the girls disgarded clothes as they get in the boat and their scuffs.. I asked him what he was going to do with his time as there is a break in the rowing for winter.. Play golf he said...
My sister Rob and I knitted the team and Coaches and Manager 'Where's Wally hats' .. which proved very popular, both to keep the head warm and to be noticed in the crowds..
You've had a very successful few days Julz, the girls did well, you did your cheering & your knitting plus you got some great photos! A win win time all round for every one!
Having just spent another 2 months in NZ I can see why you produce such great athletes. Our grandchildren do so many things already and they're only 5 and 9.
@happypat the cheering didn't sound so great yesterday Pat...us sea level folk struggle with the high altitude and it affected our throats.... all a bit squeeky... the water was even different to row in..
