While out and about the other day we came across this huge flower spike, it was on a plant that was around 7 foot high and this spike would of been about 5 foot long .. Sorry to let you all down but I am unsure of the name possibly an Aloe/agave ..
This is a beautiful lily called a Doryanthes palmeri, commonly known as the gymea lily, is a flowering plant in the family Doryanthaceae that is endemic to coastal areas of New South Wales. Has a huge spike of flower.
@onewing yeah the Doryanthes Palmeri has a different flower to excels and the flower tends to droop because of the weight of the flower, it is beautiful, we had one growing at a garden center I worked in it did not flower every year but when it flowered it made up for it.
As Karen said this is probably a Doryanthes palmeri but is known as a giant spear lily.
Ours here in NSW are the Doryanthes excels which is a Gymea lily and they are slightly different.
