@mzzhope great that you did that, I realise I should have said Sir Ralph Hotere, as he was Knighted before he died. I saw an exhibition of his work when I was in my late teens , it consisted mainly of work using charred looking wood and metal which had been marked with a grinder and was gleaming, it had a very profound effect on me.
