I like the lighting of this very much and your choice of making it b/w! Pardon me for inquiring, but I noticed that you referred to your child in a masculine way. But I think I can make out some very long locks of hair and what appears to be feminine facial features. Plus I know very few boys who would hold a cat on their lap while doing their home work. That seems to be more of a girl trait.
lol, my boys have all had long hair, two have shorn their locks so far. They used to get so sick of people thinking they were girls when they were younger, but I used to tell them people are nicer to girls so they went with it sometimes :) He hates his hair, these days its a birdsnest all the time and I guess its just a matter of time before he realises he can make the decision to cut it for himself. I think homeschooling allows them to be mellow kids, my boys are not rambunctious and love their cat :). @skipt07
i kill for that kind of lighting that i could not achieve. okay, i won't actually kill, but perhaps just ask you how you do it and i know you will reply, "natural window light, works all the time." :-) awesome!
fabulous portrait... love the low light and black and white processing... one of my boys keeps his hair long as well... it's a perpetual bird's nest, but he refuses to cut it... and he doesn't care one whit that people mistake him for a girl... ;p
Thanks for my challenge this week! I will definitely have to give it some thought! I love your work as well, especially your abstracts. Some of my most favorites! For your challenge I'd like you to freeze the action with a fast shutter, any subject is fine: sports, animals, water, random fruit flying through the air... whatever you choose! There is some great inspiration on this page: http://photography.tutsplus.com/articles/100-stunning-photos-that-freeze-time-with-a-fast-shutter--photo-4071
I'm not one for portraiture, but this has such character, we have a long haired, homeschooling, 15 year old here! His twin is very traditional and keeps his hair neat and ordered, unlike his life... ;-)
@kali66 Everyone thought they were identical until about three years ago, when they diverged! Distinctly different in most ways, now! One is very mechanically / scientifically minded and the other is a budding writer and actor.
I need to talk to you a bit about home-schooling; need tips but perhaps we do it in private. I thought Kali's lost it he is gorgeous, so much so in my opinion I cannot look at the photo and its qualities clinically :) use him, use him now for posing before all the hair goes :))))
