Signs of Decay

I've had my eye on this farm complex for some time. There are a couple of additional shots possible from this location, so you'll see more of it over time. The old, decaying farm is on Route 114 just over the Barrington line from East Providence. Today was another overcast day, and I thought it would provide a good opportunity to photograph this scene.

When I took the shot, I had a black and white scene in mind. Seeing the color tones, though, I decided to take a completely different route. A "spicify" filter - comparable in nature to an HDR effect - in Topaz Adjust was used to bring out some very high contrast color details. I then added an 80% darker color blend mode of a "find edges" filter to produce the painted affect you see here. It called for a background texture, so I added a sandstone layer between the Topaz and find edges layers. From there, I added a saturation adjustment to the blue tones, and a levels adjustment to deepen the contrast a bit. I played with a couple of photo filters, but really didn't like their effect so I discarded them. No sharpening was done on the image.
Great find and capture.. love the angle
