Railroad Bridge

East Providence, Rhode Island
I've always been fascinated by this old stone railroad bridge that spans Roger Williams Avenue in East Providence. The only rail traffic that uses the bridge now is the Providence & Worcester Railroad that provides freight service to the numerous factories and mills along the old Blackstone River Corridor. What's also interesting about this area, though, is the section you can see just beyond the bridge. In January, 1636, Roger Williams fled Salem, Massachusetts under the cover of a blizzard, and trekked 105 miles to escape Massachusetts Bay Colony rule. He arrived along the river directly in front of us. The Wampanoag Indians that he encountered here, however, gave him the unnerving news that he was still in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. They directed him further upriver to what is now Providence. Unfortunately, the historical marker that once commemorated the spot has gone missing.
Post processing started with a neutral filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, protect highlights, and protect shadows. A series of levels adjustments were added in PSE.
