This historic grist mill in the tiny hamlet of Usquepaugh has been in continuous operation since 1696 and is the second oldest continuously operated business in Rhode Island. The building that currently stands on this site dates back to 1886. The mill is tucked along the banks of the Queens River in South Kingstown, right near the Richmond line.
I felt like taking a break from the larger picture today, and instead focused just on the 19th century door and sign at the entrance to the mill. The setting screamed for black and white, so today I opted for a more traditional presentation. I used a "dramatic filter" in Topaz Adjust to capture the texture of the wood, then used a black and white gradient map to create the greyscale tones. A traditional sepia filter was added, and I slightly adjusted the levels and contrast. No background textures were used since the wood already had a fantastic grain texture on its own.
