Daggett House by kannafoot

Daggett House

It's been a while since I processed a photo as a painting, so I decided to return to that style today. After 5 monochrome images in 6 days, I think it's time to change things up a bit. With that in mind, I headed out to Slater Park in Pawtucket for a shot of the historic Daggett House. Rebuilt in 1685 after the original house was burnt by the Narragansett Indians in King Philip's War, it is the oldest standing house in Pawtucket. The structure appears to have had several additions built over the years, however the original structure is still intact. George Washington references this house in his diary and apparently spent at least one night here while he was traveling between Newport and Boston.

For post-processing I turned to my tried-and-true painting effect technique. I brought the image into Topaz Adjust and applied the Spicify Filter. While that created a somewhat garish effect for a photo, it produced just the color variations I wanted for the next step. Back in Photoshop, I applied the poster edges filter, and then applied a canvas texture background. I went pretty broad on the canvas this time since I wanted the canvas grain to stand out. A levels adjustment was added and then I toned the saturation down a bit. Finally, I placed a sepia filter as the final layer.
love this photo.. looks like a painting
