Flavor of the Old West

With it's historical ties to slavery, smuggling, bootlegging, and piracy, you would think Bristol, Rhode Island would have plenty of native unsavory characters after whom they could name a saloon. Apparently not, for this one is named the Judge Roy Bean Saloon. Roy Bean is an historical figure out of the Old West. Pecos County, Texas, to be exact. In 1882, Bean setup a tent city that he named Vinegaroon on the outskirts of Pecos County, the centerpiece of which was a saloon that specialized in a local whiskey. Being the sole authority figure for over 200 miles, he was appointed Justice of the Peace. His saloon tent soon doubled as a courtroom, and he dubbed himself "The Law West of the Pecos." His sense of justice was somewhat dubious, however, and his version of the law was whatever benefited him and his saloon. He was certainly a character for the record books, although I'm sure Bristol could have come up with some local "privateers" with a similar pedigree.

Post processing started with a Detail Light filter in Topaz Adjust. I then applied a levels adjustment in PSE. I did play around with some other options to judge the effect, but in the end I decided to leave well enough alone and left it to those two simple steps.
Interesting shot & history.
