Knot Too Shabby

This morning, I came up with a concept for a shot today to commemorate the summer solstice. Since that required a shot taken later in the day, I went out at lunch for a "safety shot." Obviously, what you see before you has nothing to do with the solstice, so you may reasonably conclude this is that lunchtime shot. I drove to the planned site for my solstice shot after work, but it requires a bright sun with distinct shadows for it to convey the right message and feeling. The 97 degree heat that hit us out of the blue today created an afternoon haze and increasing cloud cover that conspired to flatten and virtually eliminate all shadows. The shot simply wouldn't work as planned. I'll have to save that one for the winter solstice.

This safety shot was taken on the docks along the Prudence Island Ferry in Bristol. I didn't have anything specific in mind, but this colorful collection of old frayed ropes on one of the dock pilings caught my attention. I love the rust colors in the rope, and the multicolored tangled lines added to the appeal. It was a surprising find, but worth the trek out to Bristol.

Post processing involved a brilliant warm filter in Topaz Adjust. Back in PSE I adjusted the levels slightly and added a blue photo filter to restore the sky to its original color.
It's wonderful.
