After the 1938 Hurricane (unnamed since it predated the practice of naming them) and Hurricane Carol in 1954 flooded downcity Providence up to the height of two stories, the state decided to build this hurricane barrier on the Providence River. The Fox Point Hurricane Barrier is designed to withstand a storm surge from a category 3 hurricane, however the last such storm to hit was Carol. The barrier remains untested. That did not stop the Rhode Island Department of Transportation from building the IWay Bridge on the sea side of the barrier, however. One does have to wonder at the effect of a Cat 3 storm surge hitting that barrier, being turned back, and hitting that bridge from both directions. Color me cynical, but I might have considered placing that bridge inside the barrier's protection, not just outside it. Just a thought. Perhaps that's why this bridge reminds me of a rainbow, depicting the overly optimistic view of an engineering team with a less than stellar track record to date.
Post processing today was centered around preserving the beautiful sky and water color produced by the morning sun. I applied a gradient map in soft light blend mode to enhance the sunrise tones, and then adjusted the levels slightly.
