Roger Williams Park in Providence is a 427 acre gift to the people of the city. It was donated in 1871 by Betsy Williams, the great-great-great-granddaughter of the state's founder Roger Williams. The park was farmland owned by the Williams family, and Betsy's home and family cemetery are still maintained within the park's boundaries. Nestled in an open field at the southern end of the park is the Temple To Music, a large greek style marble building that is the site of many outdoor events both public and private. The steps and a couple of the columns catching the morning light are shown in today's photo. Distracting from the beauty of the temple, sadly, is the trash left over from a Friday night event. Most of the grounds were cleared overnight, but the area right around the temple were still littered with fast-food wrappers, plastic water bottles, and other debris. While graffiti is on the decline in the state, the amount of trash in our parks and on our roadways is rising at an alarming rate. My solution is public floggings, but so far the idea hasn't caught on.
Post processing started with a photo pop filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted the levels slightly, and topped it off with a warming filter.
Wonderful perspective and beautiful light in this well composed shot. I can only assume the litter bug is uneducated, never taught respect of other people's property. If the pet peeves thread is still running you should tag! Sometimes I pick up other people's trash, but I resent it.
