This one is by request. Well, technically, a color version was requested, but the lighting was perfect for black and white, so black and white it is. This is the Looff Carousel at the location of the old Crescent Park in East Providence. It's all that remains of that amusement park. The carousel was hand-carved by Charles I. D. Looff in 1895 and contains 61 horses (56 of which are jumpers), 1 camel, 2 double chariots, and 2 single coaches. This carousel served as a showcase for Looff, allowing customers to select the horses they wanted carved for the other carousels he built around the nation.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W Effects. The adaptive exposure, contrast, boost black, boost white, and detail sliders were adjusted. I also adjusted the color sensitivity sliders to achieve the proper detail and contrast. A levels adjustment was added in PSE and the top layer was a sepia photo filter.
A beautiful structure to house the carousel! Is it still in operation? Would love to see some of the hand-carved horses! Beautiful lighting and composition!
