Trash on a Leash

I spotted this old fashioned trash can while searching for a location to photograph the Old Grist Mill. The style of the can, the rust, and the faded colors all appealed to me. That it was leashed to this tree sealed the deal. It also gave me an opportunity to explore the limits of my 50mm. I decided to shoot this at f/1.2 in order to explore the effects the extremely short DoF would have on the trees and pond in the background. I'd like a bit more blur if I could manage it, but it's pretty dramatic when I compare it to the f/5.0 shot I took as a safety measure. So, while the photo makes an interesting statement regarding a need to secure a trash can like this, it's true purpose was to explore the dynamics of one of my lenses.

Post processing started with a photo pop filter in Topaz Adjust. From there I adjusted the adaptive exposure, contrast, strength, detail boost, and adaptive saturation sliders. A slight levels adjustment was added in PSE.
Ha!! Great find!! And great shot! That trash can looks like its been around to see a LOT of trash!!

I can't imagine who would try and steal it.
Great catch.

I thought the same thing....who would want to steal the old rusted trash can anyway. Nice find.

Haha! I love old stuff and I can understand why someone took his/her time to secure it next to that tree. What a great find, Ron!
