Fishing For Bait by kannafoot

Fishing For Bait

Saltwater fishermen are out in droves along the Rhode Island coastline this weekend. Stripers and Bluefish are in great abundance, and with a tropical storm coming up the coast, the fishermen are trying to get in as much time on the water as they can. The Blackstone River in Pawtucket is the scene for today's photo. Here, the fishermen are catching the bait they will use to go after Blues. This gentleman has pulled in a "Pogey" - technically Menhaden Shad - the primary bait fish used for blues. The technique is simple enough. You toss a line equipped with what looks like a grappling hook out into the middle of the river and you quickly reel it back. The hook snags the abundant pogies, typically in either the stomach or the back. Toss the pogey in your bucket and repeat the process until you've collected what you need. In a matter of minutes, the folks along this river had over a half dozen pogies each.

Post processing started with a light contrast filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted adaptive exposure, contrast, protect highlights, and adaptive saturation. A slight levels adjustment was applied in PSE.
Great action shot with lovely lighting.
