Catching Air

For today's photo, I went downcity hoping to find some skateboarders enjoying the morning sun. This constant attempt to locate skateboarders downcity was finally rewarded. There were three boarders skating near the WWI memorial and I spent a bit of time photographing and talking to them. Like the boarder I met at India Point a month ago, they were concerned about the diminishing loss of areas to board. The number of outdoor boarding parks continue to decline, and other areas like this one are often posted as off-limits. With the strong push to get young folks to exercise and get outdoors more, you would think the various parks and recreation departments around the state would be encouraging this activity.

Post processing started with a warm tone II filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, followed by adaptive exposure, regions, boost black, boost white, contrast, and protect highlights. I used Neat Image to reduce excessive noise, mostly in the sky, and applied a slight levels adjustment in PSE.

Here's the high res version on Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-z5BSpHp/0/XL/2013%2003%2024_0090%20copy-XL.jpg
The black and white in this picture fairly sings. I am so impressed and enjoy the visual experience a great deal.

I love this photo. I love the historic monument with the current activity. I agree very much with your stance on skate boarding. When people like to disagree with me I always come back to this point. "When was the last time you saw an overweight Skateboarder?" That usually get the disagreement over with pretty quickly.
