Local Farming by kannafoot

Local Farming

With blossoms adorning many of the trees and bushes in the area, I thought I would head to some of the orchards hoping to find numerous fruit trees in full bloom. Well, unlike the other flora in the area, the fruit trees appear to be well aware that winter has not vacated the region. The orchards are still bare. Running out of time, I ducked down Capron Road in Smithfield and took this shot of a small local farm. The flat overcast sky was perfect for the b&w conversion, so it was nice to find a scene with a silo to emphasize that sky. The bare tree next to it was an added bonus.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. From there I adjusted adaptive exposure, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. In PSE I added a sepia photo filter, a levels adjustment, and a slight burn to the shadows in the fence posts.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-8fB8FFq/0/XL/2013%2004%2023_0007%20copy-XL.jpg
LOL.. spring has not arroused here in Colorado either.. it snowed today. I like the dreariness of the photo with the gray clouds. I like the contrast of the silo too
