Fly Fishing by kannafoot

Fly Fishing

With the Albion Dam in the background, this fly fisherman is casting for trout in the Blackstone River. Once one of the most polluted rivers in the state, thanks to two centuries of industrial waste being dumped into the waterway, the river has undergone a remarkable transformation. I'm not sure I'd actually eat anything that comes out of this river, but for all we know he may be planning to catch and release. Fly fishing tends to be more about the enjoyment of the sport than it is about putting something on the grill.

My original plan for today was to take a long exposure photo of the waterfall. That changed when I saw the fly fisherman. Ideally, I'd have liked to get down to water level for this shot, however the parking area was full and I had to park in a tow-zone to get the photo. That meant taking a quick shot from the School Street Bridge. On a positive note, it also means I can head back here for a nice long exposure shot taken at river level. It's a beautiful spot just off the Blackstone River Bike Path.

Note to those following my photography on Flickr. Due to the absolutely hideous changes to the interface, I'm actively searching for a new location to replace my Flickr account. That account will remain open until I've settled on a replacement, primarily in the hopes that Yahoo comes to its senses and gives us some customization options to make it more palatable. In the meantime, I encourage you to follow all of my photography at http://kannafoot.smugmug.com. That remains the primary location for everything I post.

Post processing today started with a brilliant cold filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, protect highlights, and contrast. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version on Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-zBWXDPr/0/XL/2013%2005%2021_0015%20copy-XL.jpg

That bike path is such a great place for photographs. I have taken many shots from over there.
