This 18th century farmhouse sits behind the even older - 17th century - Arnold House in Lincoln. I opted to show it from this angle for a variety of reasons. First, I love the old style wooden fence. It's a somewhat accurate historical recreation suitable for the time period. Second, I really like the sense of seclusion seen here, thanks to the bushes and trees that surround the property. It's far more open on the other side, but this was more attractive to me. Finally, the house was not maintained to historical accuracy. There are energy saving modern windows, modern shingles, and a modern pitch to the roof, that all destroy the sense of history the house should convey. I couldn't bring myself to show it with that many anachronistic discrepancies.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, boost black, and boost white. Levels, brightness, and contrast adjustments were added in PSE followed by a sepia photo filter.
