What is He Photographing?

Knowing there were several events going on downcity today, I decided to do a bit of street photography and see what interesting subjects I could find. While walking past Kennedy Plaza, I decided to wait for an interesting subject to move past this background. I was planning to process in black and white, and those background buildings are ideal for a b&w conversion. When I saw this cyclist approaching, I knelt down and composed the scene, just waiting for him to enter. Now, when I take that approach, I always keep both eyes open - one in the viewfinder and the other to watch the scene around me - and I was therefore able to see his reaction to the photo. It was one of confusion. He saw me kneeling there, and turned his head to see what I was photographing. Seeing nothing apparent (to him) he looked back at me with a puzzled look on his face. As he rode past me, he kept looking back and forth between me and the bus station, clearly convinced that he was missing something obvious. It never dawned on him that HE was the subject!

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and boost black. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-Cn8SNsv/0/XL/2013%2010%2027_0082%20copy-XL.jpg

I can relate to people trying to see what we're seeing and I do it as well to photographers
Sometimes people stop, pose and smile and we snap and say thank you even though that usually is not what we want
