Expect to see a number of early morning India Point photos. I've been put on a project at work that involves a daily 4-hour meeting that completely obliterates my ability to get out at lunch for a photo. The first project meeting was today, so I stopped at India Point on my way into work. This lone tautog fisherman was sitting on his bucket at the end of these docks. The water was perfectly calm, which meant the interesting cloud pattern was reflected without virtually any distortion. That created an odd effect in the water that I'm not certain I like, actually. I'm thinking it makes the photo too busy. I think I'd have preferred more ripple and less reflection, given the sky texture.
Post processing started with a color version in Topaz Adjust. I applied a brilliant warm filter, followed by adjustments to adaptive exposure, contrast, brightness, and protect highlights. That was brought into Topaz B&W FX where I applied a neutral greyscale filter. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment and a contrast adjustment were added in PSE.
I am speechless right now. :O This picture...wow. I love how you REALLY managed to catch the essence of loneliness on this picture. And the reflection in the water are so beautiful! Fav! *_*
This is such a striking image for many reasons, but the reflections of the clouds is particularly strong. I almost missed the fisherman but since your title indicated there was one, I looked at the photo enlarged, where he is more easily found.
