With a Snarl and a Growl

Wednesdays pose a significant time constraint for lunch-time photography, so I typically stay very close to work when I head out for my daily photo. Today I popped over to Crescent Park, planning to do a black and white of the ruined docks with the river in the background. Instead, I spotted this pop wearing his Christmas Sweater as guard against the cold wind that blew in overnight. His owner was amenable to the photo, but cautioned that, "He's not very friendly, so don't get too close." Indeed he wasn't. The dog snarled and growled at me all the while I composed and took the photo.

Post processing started with a brilliant warm filter in Topaz Adjust. From there I adjusted adaptive exposure, contrast, and protect highlights. A slight levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-8p6gW5z/0/XL/2013%2011%2020_0003%20copy-XL.jpg

This is such a nice photo, but I am always taken by the story that you explain. We just got a little dog Monday, and she is sweet, except she can really growl and nip at our old dog when he tries to get too close. It reminds me of that, and it's sort of funny.

Interesting in that without the caption and narrative, I wouldn't have understood the dog's expression because his face is so dark that his facial expressions are hard to see.

I always appreciate the processing information you share. This looks so natural despite (or because of) the processing.
