Ice in the Harbor

Wickford, Rhode Island
The tiny fishing village of Wickford is one of my favorite photo locations. The entire village fits in about three square blocks, but there's always something interesting to photograph. The far end of the village contains the town docks, and that's usually the first place I head. Normally, there are a few people around the docks, but today - thanks, no doubt, to the single digit temperatures - the only people were some birdwatchers sitting in their cars, and looking at a flock of hooded mergansers swimming in a small patch of open water. Most of the harbor was coated in a layer of ice as you can see in this photo. There are still a surprising number of boats in the water. I have to think the freeze and thaw of the harbor cannot be too good for the hulls.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
