Pedal Power

Providence, Rhode Island
I belong to a Sunday Brunch Meetup Group that goes out for brunch on the third Sunday of every month. Today we went to Cafe Paragon on Thayer Street, in the heart of Providence's historic East Side. Naturally, I took my camera along to do some street photography after brunch. This area is home to both Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) so there's always plenty of activity on Thayer. As I passed the East Side Trolley Tunnel, I noticed the flashing yellow light that indicated a bus was arriving. Sure enough, this RIPTA Trolley - designed to resemble the prohibition era trolleys that served as mass transit in the state - arrived. One passenger disembarked and quickly unlocked the bike he had secured to a lamppost earlier in the day. The scene you see before you is of that cyclist racing alongside the bus. He was pedaling like the hounds of hell were after him, and by the time the bus dipped into the tunnel, the biker had a full bus-length lead. I was suitably impressed.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and boost black. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
