Post-War Cape

Post-War Cape
08 February 2014 -- 39/365
North Providence, Rhode Island

I've been going for a walk every morning for the past four years. On my way home this morning, this scene caught my fancy. The shadows on the roof of the house, the apparent weathering on the house, the cracked pavement, and the interesting sky all vied for attention, so I just had to return to capture the scene. Anecdotally, the neighborhood in which I live only dates to the early 1960s. That's not entirely accurate, however. It's true that, between 1962 and 1964 the Cove Construction Company built most of the houses in the neighborhood. The land had been farmland, though, dating back to the early 1700s. In fact, the oldest house in North Providence stood only 100 yards from the one in this scene until it was demolished two years ago. The house you see here was built just after World War II - in 1947, to be exact - on what was still farmland.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, protect highlights, and boost black. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2014/i-Nr7CLKn/0/XL/2014%2002%2008_0002%20copy-XL.jpg
