End of an Era

North Providence, Rhode Island
After living here for 52 years, my next door neighbor has now moved into an assisted living facility. While she's extremely happy in her new home, it's a sad moment for the neighborhood. They've been fantastic neighbors over the years, and were actually the first people I met here when I moved to North Providence. Now, it's amazing just how much you can collect over 52 years in the same house, and today her son held a yard sale to attempt to dispose of as much of that history as possible. Yard sales are a bit of a New England tradition, and it came as no surprise that folks were already arriving in search of bargains before 9:00 AM.
Post processing started with a neutral filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, details, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
Looks like there is a lot of interesting stuff there, I'm sure a lot of money will be made. Sad news to hear about the leaving but I'm sure that the lovely impact she's made will stay with the community long after she's moved out! (:
This hits pretty close to home for me right now. My mother's doctor wants her to move to assisted living, and she is refusing to, so my family members and I are taking turns going to live with her. I leave tomorrow for nine days. In the meantime, she is explaining her treasures and giving them to various relatives. I think that gives her some comfort. We are biding our time to let her come to the realization of what she needs to do on her own. She just lost her husband of 72 years, and that's enough loss for the time being without her home as well.
@cejaanderson It's never easy to make that decision. For my neighbor, she came to the conclusion on her own after falling in the house a few times. The last time she fell, the fire department had to break through her front door, and for her it was the last straw. Now she regrets not doing it several years ago, since she loves the new facility. She's 92 years old, sharp as a whip, and the activity in the facility has put some new spring in her step.
I've only just realised that I haven't been following you this whole time Ron! I thought that I had been following you this whole time! No worries, I fixed that up right away though! :)
