Rhode Island State House

Rhode Island State House

I wanted to take a night photo, and decided on the Capitol Building on Smith Hill in Providence. The exterior lighting does a great job of emphasizing the building's intricate details and it's much more photogenic at night than it is during the day. That white marble exterior washes out as soon as the sun clears the hills of the East Side. Driving around the building looking for a place to park, I noticed that the moon was sitting just over the west wing of the State House, which made this the obvious angle from which to photograph the building.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2014/i-NqRB8J4/0/XL/2014%2007%2009_0017%20copy-XL.jpg
