19th Century Woonsocket

Woonsocket, Rhode Island
In the late 19th century, Woonsocket was a thriving mill village inhabitant primarily by French-Canadian immigrants. With the advent of "talkies" - movies with sound - in the early part of the 20th century, the center of almost every town featured a theater. Woonsocket was no exception, as seen in this photo. The megaplexes featuring a dozen screens and multiple showings daily put almost all of these single large-screen theaters out of business in the late '70s and '80s. Many of them, however, have seen new life as live performance theaters. The Stadium Theater in Woonsocket is one of those theaters once again thriving thanks to the surging popularity of performance arts in the state.
Post processing started with a neutral filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, and boost white. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
