In 2013, The Outdoor Industry Association called this "the outdoor sporting activity with the most first-time participants of any in the United States that year." Prior to 2005 it was virtually unknown in the States. It has gained such popularity that it's common to see stand up paddleboarders wherever you find kayakers on ponds or surfers in the ocean. That, in fact, is where the sport originated since stand up paddle surfers were able to cover greater distances more quickly when searching for distant breaks. The couple in today's photo were enjoying a leisurely paddle on Olney Pond in Lincoln Woods State Park.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
