I passed this beautiful autumn tree today (Sunday, Oct. 19) on my way to church. On the way home I stopped to take a picture of it.
You can't really see the mill in this picture- it is behind the green tree on the right. The mill is a working gristmill that opened in 1852 and operated for 70 years. It was also a stop on the Underground Railroad and President Lincoln is believed to have visited the mill during a trip between Springfield and Chicago. It fell into disrepair, but in 1950 a group of local residents expressed interest in restoring it as a historic site. It's now open for tours, and you can buy corn meal that's been ground on the mill. The building on the left is the Graue House which was built in 1859. The county now owns the house and rents the first floor for private events. They have also given art and photography shows there both for professionals and work by local high school students.
This is my 365th photograph! It took me way over a year to do it, though. I have more photos to go through and upload.
September 2015 - I dropped my Nikon L22 at the arboretum (on asphalt!) and it's definitely broken. :(
October 2014- finally reached 365 photographs and it...
