FoR leading lines challenge.
Previously on WtL I woke before dark to hear a koala screaming, Maxine out on a limb, Jordan settling into a nearby tree, Bullet jumping in to read the scent story then disappearing into bloodwood gully, and Jordan coming to read the story too ...
Deprived of coffee I nevertheless moved back just a little to watch in awe as Jordan began to move up the tree. Like Bullet, he was smelling all the way, but unlike Bullet he kept positioning himself to be able to rub his sticky, oily, scent gland over every spot Bullet had just been.
You will see this clearly when the movie is released tomorrow - exclusively alpha male koala behaviour. This behaviour told me much about what had gone on in this tree before dawn. This is exciting as I have only seen this behaviour a handful of times myself.
Koala behaviour and communication is far more complex than we think most of the time because it is so subtle. Subtle does not mean there is not a rich depth to their social lives, it just means that clumsy animals like humans miss most of it ;)
I watched Jordan carefully cover over Bullets tracks (even though Bullet had not done any scent gland marking, his smell was there from his moving through). He worked methodically and then finally he moved to the branch where I had first seen Maxine sitting pensively hunched back in episode one ...
Stay tuned for the final episode tomorrow as the FoR leading lines theme finishes and with it, the walking the line images are complete, and the movie will be released!
What is it that actually went on - did you figure it out?
Did she ever get that coffee many of you wonder?
Thanks so much for being a part of my project, and part of this fun story telling week, and commenting and asking such awesome questions :)
I love this image as he walks along the tree branch , great composition and light . Love the mottled patches on the tree trunk and branches - matching the patterns on his backside . I have enjoyed the narrative full of suspense and educational ! Shall look forward to tomorrows finale !
I think I figured out very early on what might have happened, but I'll know for sure tomorrow! I think what has interested me most with these shots is the markings on their fur. I did not know they could have more than one "color". Good shot! Enjoying the story, looking forward to the video and full disclosure of all things koala!
@koalagardens OH I am SO sorry!! I got a notification that you uploaded a video on youtube. I didn't see your pic until after I was so excited to tell you that I liked the video. I can delete my comment if want me to.
@samae oh no don't be sorry, I'm thrilled you subscribe to my youtube channel - and it put you one step ahead - that is why I wrote hahaha because I was only joking saying you cheated it's all good!!
