A bit of selective colour retention for some editing enjoyment.
Smokey and mum are definitely back together again after mum gave birth to a new tiny little pinky last week.
Thank you for the love messages of concern and support during this awful time of fire and drought.
@shutterbug49 ah you must have missed the goings on - she left Smokey in her favourite tree for 3 days and disappeared. Then on day 4 she was back, picked up Smokey and off they went again.
She wanted those 3 days alone to give birth, and ensure that little pinky was properly fused to a teat in her pouch before lugging Smokey about again :)
@onewing oh Smokey is pretty close to being completely independent and would have coped alone :)
People don't realise female koalas nearly always have the next one in pouch while one is on the back because it's not obvious I guess
@bruni they won't know each other. The new joey won't emerge from the pouch until around June/July next year. At the moment it is the size of jelly bean. In the next month or two at most Smokey and mum will completely separate. :)
An interesting take on the eyes with the selective coloring. It's interesting to me that Racee (do I have the mom right?) went off and Smokey just stayed put and waited for her to return. They must have some sort of Koala code that established all that beforehand! LOL most human children left to their own devices are not so well behaved! Good shot!
@olivetreeann oh yes you are quite correct and I'd love to know if Smokey was waiting knowing, or just hoping. What I notice is that when the mum does finally leave the joey they do tend to stay in the very close vicinity for days, and then only move about in a small range. For sure a human child would be off getting up to much mischief and be lost in a flash, causing mum a big headache hunting! I must say the comparison has me giggling with memories of being out with a small child!
The brown eyes are Splendid...well played!
