https://youtu.be/3Ad6O5X7Frw is the video of Phoenix with joey and you can see some perspective of how far away I am.
I was already quite sure I had found Phoenix, but this nose pattern photo totally confirmed it. I identify all koalas by the pattern of pink (areas missing pigmentation) on the nose and inside the nostrils. It is very accurate and useful!
It’s amazing to me how you recognize them by nose patterns. Some are quite unique but others seem like they would be more difficult to differentiate especially from 30 meters up!
The joey is soooo cute! He/she is giving Kola (who I think is also adorable) a run for the title of Kutest Koala at Wild and Free. Welcome home Phoenix and thanks for blessing us with the sighting or your beautiful baby!
@gardencat@k9photo it works well, but some are more difficult than others for sure. I don't do it on the spot most of the time, but by getting good photos and then sitting at the computer and comparing against all the noses I have on file. But a koala with a really distinctive pattern, or ones I've seen often are quick and easy. Lucky they don't all have a wedge out of their ears as Bullet is the easiest of all 😂
