I was talking on the phone with @happysnaps and happened to look out the front door and wait a minute - a koala! I then walked for like 20 minutes looking for him, only to finally find after hanging up he had going into an ornamental eucalypt right in front of him there - I presumed he had taken off down into the plantation.
Oh my goodness, I wonder why Valentine was down on the ground! I'm glad you saw him while he was there, and that he went back up into a tree. I wonder what he was watching. He looks so different on the ground!
@kchuk because we no longer have huge old growth forests covering the landscape, koalas have to get down on the ground to move. he had come in the front gate, down the driveway and was heading to the trees in front of my kitchen :)
@onewing no not often, you have to be lucky (?) to be at the particular spot where they are moving at the right time as they get back up into a tree as fast as possible ;)
@olivetreeann I hope so! they regularly walk about between trees - and this is when all the traumas happen that takes out nearly half the koalas we rescue each year sadly.
@koalagardens if I may anthropomorphize Valentine... "I know this place! This is Ms. Katrina's place! I am safe here! Hi, Ms. Katrina!" (makes his way down your driveway) I'm not sure if the koalas actually know they are safe with you, and that you keep a close eye on them, but I'd like to think somehow they do.
I was so wishing I could see him as we talked..
