My town hosts a pumpkin smash each year in the hopes of keeping pumpkins out of the landfill. This is my son about to throw one of our jack-o-lanterns into the pile.
Thank you everyone for your comments and fav's on my rainbow shot from yesterday. I never expected such a response!! You also got my "I heart fall" shot from a couple of days ago onto the Top 20 for the week. I'm thrilled!!!
It must be because the seeds propagate too easily. . .like in my backyard from my neighbor's thrown away pumpkin from last year! Looks like great fun. . .
What a great idea! We recycle our left-over foodstuffs every week (at least most of us in this area do), I wonder how many pumpkins will be collected by the refuse chaps! Love the one remaining face and the feeling of the throw!
@sailingmusic If you didn't participate then you pumpkins would just get picked up in regular garage pick up which all goes into the same landfill (I think). There probably is a separate composting area if you took them there yourself but very few people would do that. Instead, theses are composted and used in a community garden. @ladyjane
