I went for a walk yesterday and came across this large collection of caterpillars. I couldn't believe how many of them there were and how the whole clump moved as one! I took this with my iPhone.
Thanks so much for your wonderful response to yesterday's swing shot of my son. It always amazes me how some photos you don't really think much of seem to connect with others and generate a fantastic response from all of you. I appreciate your views, comments and favs!
WOW....I was trying to figure out what this was before reading your title and commentary. Never would have guessed. This is so amazing and what a great find! Excellent capture!
I wonder if they're the same sort of caterpillar as mine were? There seems to be an abundance of all sorts of bugs this year xx http://365project.org/psychographer/365
I took a similar photo to this last week. I have never seen anything like it before however yours has so many more caterpillars on it and I love how you have processed this!
Amazing texture and detail! What in the world? Is this a group hug for caterpillars? They remind me of Tent Worms, but they are usually in webs until they are mature and ready to destroy all plant leaves in their sight.
What do you call a group of caterpillars - I'd say a damned nuisance. We have two white cedar trees on our property and it gets infested with hairy caterpillars each year. It doesn't matter how often we spray the tree the caterpillars come back and then feed on the leaves and strip the tree bare. The hairs on the caterpillars are quite toxic too and if you get them on your skin they are very painful.
Noooo! I remember these as a very small child, and I was terrified of them when there were hundreds crawling all over. Looks like it will be one of "those" years!
