I posted a photo yesterday of my daughter about to swim off the "big" ocean side at our family's summer property. Many people were concerned about the possibility of jumping so I made this to try to give you a better idea of the property and how the "cliff" works.
This is the cabin on the cliff side of the property. On the back is a beach that we can walk to easily.
In order to jump off the cliff the tide must be up. You can see in the right hand image that the barnacles are still visible and it's not on the waterline. Once the water is at the right level you have two jumping options. The lower ledge makes for a shorter jump. As kids we would turn around and lay on our belly with our feet over. My parents would take our hands and lower us down. The other option is to just jump directly off the top. I've done both (35+ years ago) but never dove. I found this old photo of my cousin diving off the lower ledge. I'm hoping this profile shot will give you a better sense of the depth. You can see the tide is much higher so it made it safer and much easier to climb out of the water. This photo is probably close to 40 years old. I'm on the bottom in the middle watching Cory dive! He was a daredevil and the only one of us kids that ever dove. The rest of us just jumped!
Love both photos - nice to see the perspective of the rocks from the sea, and the old photo too. It's amazing what you can do when you are young or even when you are older if you keep the courage!
I can see this view gives a whole different picture although I wasn’t worried they the kids were taking risks...you know your area & will have jumped many times.....so good they enjoy swimming & diving...great sport. Looks like a beautiful holiday home you have!
