I had no idea what to shot for "gangham style" so I went for the alternate word of ROCK. I bought a pop up light box yesterday and thought I'd experiment this morning. Wow, it's way harder than I thought. I had two desk lamps as light sources but I'm wondering if I need something stronger. I'm not sure I really like the shade of white either. Anyone with suggestions or tips I would greatly appreciate. Thanks.
I really like this shot. I think that the use of a light-box is great. I have been making my own version of backgrounds so to match the subject. I personally don't like to work on white or shiny backgrounds.
Some place on your camera there should be a setting for "White Balance". If you play with that a bit you might get the white to come out less creamy. However - I don't think you need to. The creamy color around softens the looks of the rocks. It give the entire photo a warm feel that I think would be missing if the white was a stark white.
I like the shot but think it could be improved with a purer shade of white ( I see pink undertones ) and stronger shadows. Maybe a slight reduction on the rock highlights, too. Not that I really know anything about this.
@worldbiking I totally agree with your comments, Amaya. I think I should have fiddled with the white balance more. I'm also not sure my light sources were strong enough.
