There's a famous French film called 'Jules & Jim'. Well this is 'Jacques & Jasper' who met this afternoon. They know each other and get on well, but Jasper is a bit intimidated by Jacques' size. They are the same age, 18 months, but Jacques is a Patou, a Pyrenean Mountain Dog. They were bred to guard sheep against wolves, and are still used for this purpose in the Alps and the High Pyrenees. Jacques was bred by nuns at a religious retreat in the mountains south of here, who have been breeding these dogs for 50 years.
