Monument aux morts, Port Vendres

Local sculptor Aristide Maillol created for free four local war memorials. This is the third that I've photographed. Port Vendres is the last commercial port before the border with Spain, and the main port once serving the French colonies in North Africa. It suffered badly during WW2 and perhaps that's why this sculpture in stone is damaged. A bronze copy is in the Tuileries gardens in Paris.

Moving memorial. I find reading the names very sad when you see whole families who died.
