Round Mountain Hut by leggzy

Round Mountain Hut

Still catching up here - another HUT shot from a couple of days ago on our little trip to the snowies region.

I decided on this shot for today more so for the story on getting there!

We decided to do this walk & it just happened to be pouring rain all day (YAY - not...lol). The National parks website said that it was a 4km return walk with very steep grading on a track that was not guideposted (poles in the ground with marking arrows). As we were walking along the Round Mountain Hut walking trail, we came across another track that went off to the left named "Farm Ridge Trail" - there was no sign to mention anything about Round Mountain Hut, so we figured that we were to continue along Round Mountain Hut track. We continued on for a fair while with no idea on exactly how far we had walked, we felt we had done probably 3-4km and wondered why we hadn't come across the hut. We kept thinking that perhaps the NP website had an error, and that it was 4km each way, rather than 4km return. We continued on thinking we'd come across the hut over the next hill, or the next bend in the track...but nope! The rain was getting heavier & we decided to cut our losses & head back to the car, feeling rather disappointed.

We had a bit of lunch when we got back to the car, when another walker also returned to their car so we asked them if they had come across the Round Mountain Hut, to which they advised us that it was 200m or so along the Farm Ridge Trail that we came across to the left of the main track!!! Far out - one would think that there would be a sign saying so if it was off the main track that is called "Round Mountain Hut Track"!! If they had gone to the trouble of erecting a sign for the Farm Ridge Trail, wouldn't you think that they'd also put a sign that this was the way to the hut?!

Needless to say, we decided to go back again & found it quite easily.....hence the reason I was able to get a shot of the hut. We figured we had walked probably 12-14km for what should have been a 4km hike to see this blessed hut....lol - can only laugh about it now :))) In the end, we were glad we made the decision to go back :)
A lovely shot and a great story. Just think how fit you are now after your hike.
