Looking over from the Park Road to Sannick this morning. The Church of Scotland can be seen in the centre of the shot. It is the only Church of Scotland in the South Mainland to remain open after a recent closure of the remaining four in the area. I suspect it was the one chosen as Sandwick is in the centre of the South Mainland. A lovely calm morning but wind and rain due this evening. It has been a good spell and I've been able to get some walking miles in while I can.

At what time does it become full daylight? I find it absolutely enthralling, this area of the world. I'd love to stay there!
I've read Peter May’s books set in the Hebrides, plus I have the coffee table photography book that accompanies May’s books; are those islands similar in geology, climate, and lifestyle to the Shetland Isles?
@cocokinetic the light in winter is softer due to the sun being much lower. If not for the cloud it would be full light around 10:00. There are many similarities between the Hebrides and Shetland - weather and isolation being the main ones. Shetland is more remote but thanks to a well negotiated deal with the oil companies when North Sea oil was discovered in the 70’s facilities are very good.

Thank you very much for your informative response. The North Sea oil deal is intriguing, I’ll read up about that.
I look forward to your next photo ⭐
