According to my research, this is a common hollyhock. It is certainly very common in my neighbourhood- they have sprung up everywhere, in a variety of colours. I must admit I find the leaves rather ugly but the trumpet like flowers are very appealing.
This is really beautiful! I grew up with hollyhocks as a child, but hardly ever see them anymore. I did learn that they are a relative of the hibiscus, which I do see a lot of where I live.
