Today was my first encounter with the Great Black Wasp. This plant with the tiny pink flowers must be tasty, because there were about 20 of these wasps on it. They are huge, averaging 1 to 1.5 inches in length, and sound like a Lancaster bomber flying past. The iridescent blue wings are pretty but these are nightmare fuel in my book.
