This is one of our yuccas that is flowering at the moment. It has a long stalk and these flowers gradually appear out of those green pods until the whole stalk is covered with these creamy bells!
Wow - almost monotone, lovely. It is really strange that 4 out of 5 people I am following (and myself) all posted some sort of flower or plant photograph today (could we have a group telepathy going on?!!!)
Just thought of you as there's a prog on BBC now called "Speed Dreams: The Fastest Place on Earth" about some Brits building various types of bikes in their sheds (includingone, a 1930s Indian) all hoping to head to Bonneville to break various records.... Of course, there's a mention of Bert Munroe... Thought it might bring back some memories of the lengths people go through for their passion and maybe you could watch it on teh BBC iplayer website later this week...
@karenann It looks like a small flax for most of the year then around December a stalk starts to grow - a bit like an asparagus. It puts on height virtually overnight but the flowers take a week or two to come out and only last for about 3 - 4 weeks. It's a beautiful greeny white!
@andycoleborn Thanks Andy - thats very interesting! We will see if we can get some more info on this! They can't beat Burt's record as the class no longer exists!
@maggiemae Yes, we have them here but I don't think there will be any flowers in this season. Nearly time to take Jinks for a walk so that could be an objective this morning - yucca search!
