After buckets of rain for 36 hours, the local rivers flooded and acres of farmland were covered in water. Several main roads were also flooded and Oamaru was cut off on all sides from the rest of the world.
Three good things;
1. John had such fun powering through the flooded roads with the water streaming high over the truck.
2. We were allowed through the cordon to photograph flooded areas because I was a "photographer' so John told the authorities!
3. I almost got a shot of the helicopter going backwards and forwards over our house taking film crews but got wet slippers having to go out on to the deck.
Men will be boys even in times of difficulty!! You must have felt quite important & perhaps John had an ulterior motive going to see the ''action''!!
Does look a lot of rain you have had & hope all are safe!
I had been wondering how you were getting on down there. It sounds pretty insane with all the flooding, and more rain for the rest of the week. I hope you (when not doing adventure/ journo photography) are safe and dry.
@psychographer Our house is in a good position and very few houses were affected here - mostly farmland and it drains away eventually. The damage to the roads is the worst - our rates will go up!
fires in one place and too much rain in another.
you really captured the flood well.
hope things settle down soon.
glad your husband spoke up for you the photographer.
I am glad you were able to take this photo, Maggiemae. What a lot of rain. We got less than 36 hours of rain all Winter long into Spring. Seems strange from place to place. I hope the flooding eases up soon for you the "photographer".
Great shots...wish that would work for me...we are also having flooding around here and I can't get to any of my usual dog walk areas...all under water or at risk and closed off. I fear for some of the young birds that haven't fledged yet.

I've been seeing photos of the flooding on my friend's Facebook. Scary stuff.
